Cardiff heaped further pressure on Blackburn manager Steve Kean as goals from Kenny Miller and Anthony Gerrard put the Welsh club into the last four of the Carling Cup for the first time since 1966 following a 2-0 success at Cardiff City Stadium.
Scotland striker Miller opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a low left-footed finish and Gerrard sealed the win by nodding home five minutes after the break after Blackburn keeper Mark Bunn had failed to deal with a corner.

At the other end David Goodwillie had his headed effort well saved by Cardiff keeper Tom Heaton and Scott Dann also nodded wide, but in truth Rovers were well beaten and the visiting support made clear their dissatisfaction with repeated chants of "Kean out".

The evening had begun with the ground uniting in a round of applause and a minute's silence in memory of Wales manager Gary Speed, with the home support regularly breaking into chants of "There's only one Gary Speed" throughout the contest.

The match started scrappily as the visitors carved out the opening chance when Morten Gamst Pedersen's clever lay-off saw Goodwillie shoot across the face of goal.

Blackburn's early dominance continued when Heaton was forced into a sharp save as Grant Hanley hit the target with a header from a Pedersen corner, but the Norwegian gifted the hosts the lead in the 19th minute.

Aron Gunnarsson seized on a poor pass by Pedersen to play Miller in to beat Bunn with a low left-footed finish.

It could have been 2-0 five minutes later as Miller outwitted Hanley on the byline and jinked past Bunn, only for his shot to be blocked by Dann with the home crowd baying for a handball against the former Birmingham man.

Blackburn were showing signs of full-scale panic, best exemplified by Jason Lowe's booking for hauling down Craig Conway after being caught in possession.

David Dunn's drive from distance was tipped round the post by Heaton and a Dann header from the resulting corner was deflected over the bar as Blackburn rallied.

Cardiff had appeals for a penalty waved away early in the second half despite Mauro Formica making a clumsy challenge on Peter Whittingham on the edge of the box.

But it only proved a brief reprieve for the visitors as Cardiff doubled their lead through Gerrard.

Bunn came for a Whittingham corner and got nowhere near it as Ben Turner headed back across goal for his defensive partner to finish.

Midfielder Filip Kiss had a great chance to further extend the lead but headed wide, with the travelling support voicing their displeasure.

Heaton saved a strong Goodwillie header low down to his right before the Scotland striker was left furious when his claims that Cardiff left-back Andrew Taylor had fouled him as he raced through on goal were waved away by referee Martin Atkinson.

Full-back Kevin McNaughton blasted a stinging drive just wide as Cardiff continued to look likely to add to their tally.

Miller fired high and wide after being teed up by Gunnarsson's intelligent pass before Dann came within inches of giving Rovers a lifeline as he glanced a header just wide at the far post.

Kean threw on Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Jason Roberts for the closing stages and the Nigerian's first act was to attempt to square the ball in the area despite having the space to get an effort in on goal.

Fellow substitute Ruben Rochina then curled wide from distance to cap a miserable night for the visitors.

Sunderland 1-2 Wigan: Larsson, Gomez, Di Santo scored

Wigan's Franco Di Santo scored in injury time to take all three points in 2-1 win in the Premier League at the Stadium of Light, Saturday 26/11/2011.
The Latics ended a run on nine league games without a win after a resilient performance against Sunderland who now find themselves just two points above the drop zone.

It was the visitors who had the first meaningful attempt on goal as Jordi Gomez's powerful strike on six minutes flew straight into the hands of Keiren Westwood in the Sunderland goal.

However just two minutes later Sunderland broke the deadlock. Nicklas Bendtner saw his shot spilled by Ali Al Habsi, Kieran Richardson followed up but Al Habsi managed to block his effort. The ball eventually ended up with Larsson who lashed home his effort from 6 yards.

Sunderland were in complete control and on 15 minutes almost doubled their lead. Richardson beat the offside trap but saw his low shot at the near post turned behind by Al Habsi for a corner.

From the resulting corner Wes Brown almost powered his diving header past Al Habsi but the Wigan keeper was in inspired form as a fine reflex save denied the former Manchester United man.

Sunderland had appeals for a penalty turned down when Stephane Sessegnon was brought down by Ronnie Stam. However referee Kevin Friend got the decision right, ruling that the tackle was made outside the box.

The free kick saw Larsson whip in a superb cross but Al Habsi once again denied the Black Cats as this time John O'Shea saw his glancing header pushed away.

Both side wasted valuable chances on 38 minutes. Victor Moses did well to dig out a cross for Stam but the defender miscued his effort, and they almost paid the ultimate price as a swift counter attack saw Richardson find Bardsley in acres of space inside the Wigan box. But the Scottish defender blazed his effort well over the Wigan goal.

Just before half time Wigan was awarded a penalty as Moses was fouled by Larsson inside the area. Gomez stepped up to take the spot kick, sending Westwood the wrong way and giving Wigan a vital lifeline.

Into the second half and both sides came out with a sense of urgency and in search of the win. Sunderland had appeals for a penalty turned down when O'shea's cross was only half cleared to Colback who saw his shot come back off the arm of Gohouri.

Connor Sammon went down under a challenge from Wes Brown after turning Michael Turner on the half way line. Despite the coming together there was little appeal for a foul from the Wigan striker.

In the 78th minute Jack Colback's cross found Richardson but his header went agonizingly wide of the Wigan goal.

Into stoppage time and Wigan were defending superbly, as Sunderland searched for a late winner. However a long Diame clearance was chased by Di Santo who put Westwood under pressure, forcing the keeper into a dreadful pass out to Brown.

David Jones dispossessed Brown and he squared the ball to Di Santo who calmly passed the ball into an empty net to seal an important win for Wigan.

Norwich City 2-1 QPR: Martin, Holt , Young scored

Grant Holt came off the bench to bundle in the winner as Norwich beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 in a frantic affair at Carrow Road.
Norwich took a 14th minute lead through Russell Martin, who swept in from close-range after QPR failed to clear Andrew Surman's corner.

QPR hit back through Luke Young, who slotted in after Jamie Mackie's low drive came back off the inside of the post.

But Paul Lambert's double substitution in the 70th minute proved to be an inspired move as Wesley Hoolahan crossed for Holt, who got enough on the ball to beat Radek Cerny and seal a valuable three point.

This battle between two newly-promoted sides with lofty ambitions started at breakneck speed.

The pace of the encounter caught Anton Ferdinand out on a couple of occasions, and he was almost punished in the ninth minute when he let Steve Morison get ahead of him and poke a shot towards goal.

But Radek Cerny, the former Spurs keeper making his first Premier League appearance for almost three years, was equal to that effort – and most of what Norwich threw at his goal in the early stages.

But he was undone by his teams slack defending at Surman’s 14th minute corner.

Shaun Derry failed to clear at the near post and the loose ball fell to Martin, whose fired in from close-range.

QPR, inspired by Wright-Phillips throughout the first half, toiled for an equaliser and Derry should have atoned for his earlier error but was unable to stab the ball in at the far post from Wright-Phillips’s clipped free-kick.

Moments before the interval, a mazy Wright-Phillips run allowed the winger the space to send a fizzing low shot at Ruddy, but Mackie could only find the side-netting with the rebound.

QPR, without their suspended captain Joey Barton, continued to boss the contest and deserved their equaliser, courtesy of Young, just before the hour.

Prior to his goal against Stoke last week, Young hadn’t scored since August 2010, but he was on hand to calmly slot in the rebound after Mackie’s low drive crashed back off the foot of the post.

QPR looked favourites to make it 2-1 for a while but Lambert reacted with an inspired double change, which bore fruit less than three minutes later.

Ghosting into space that should have been occupied by Derry, Holt finished Hoolahan’s delivery from the right - and almost raised the roof at Carrow Road.

QPR pressed for a second equaliser and came closest when Young's over-hit cross scraped the bar - but Norwich survived and the Londoners - who have now lost eight of their last nine visits to Norwich - were forced to leave empty-handed again.

Bolton 0-2 Everton: Fellaini ,Vellios scored, Wheater sent-off

Everton took full advantage of an early red card to David Wheater as goals from Marouane Fellaini and substitute Apostolos Vellios gave the visitors a 2-0 Premier League away win at the Reebok Stadium, Saturday 26/11/2011.
Wheater received a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Diniyar Bilyaletdinov within the opening 20 minutes and from then on, the match became an uphill struggle for the home side.

It was Everton who made the livelier start amidst teaming rain, Jaaskelainen forced into an early reaction save to prevent Jagielka diverting a free-kick home. And with Diniyar Bilyaletdinov at the heart of everything creative about the Everton attack and Leighton Baines causing constant problems down the left, Bolton had their hands full before their task was made even more difficult when Wheater received a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Bilyaletdinov. Wheater flew in with his studs up, leaving the referee with little choice and the winger down for several minutes before applying extra strapping to his shin pad.

Despite the setback, Bolton actually enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the first half. Chris Eagles caused problems for the Everton defence down the left wing and Tim Howard was forced into beating away a fierce shot from Ivan Klasnic.

In a half of precious few chances, Everton should have gone ahead on 35 minutes following a good exchange of passes between Baines, Tim Cahill and Bilyaletdinov before the ball dropped came to Louis Saha who was caught just offside.

But Everton did not have to wait until long into the second half for their numerical advantage to tell, the excellent Bilyaletdinov storming down the left before crossing for Felliani to stab home into an empty net. Moments later, Cahill played in Saha but he shot straight into the hands of Jaaskelainen.

Bolton nearly found a way back into the game through Klasnic, but Howard did well to save with his legs. With Bolton re-shuffling to plug the hole left by Wheater in defence, Everton introduced Vellios for Saha and the substitution paid dividends almost immediately. Great work down the right from Seamus Coleman not only kept the ball in play but his stretching foot crossed for Vellios to sidefoot calmly into the net past Jaaskelainen.

Everton’s first back-to-back victory since April lifts them to eighth in the table whilst Bolton’s woes continue. Defeat means that they are still deep in relegation trouble and have only one win and six defeats at home, the worst record in the Premier League.

Westbrom 1-3 Tottenham: Adebayor double, Mulumbe, Defoe scored

Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 in an exciting Premier League encounter at The Hawthorns, Saturday 27/11/2011.
Youssouf Mulumbu headed the Baggies in front after just 10 minutes, only for Emmanuel Adebayor to level for Spurs midway through the first half.

The second half saw plenty of chances at both ends before Defoe hit his sixth goal of the season and Adebayor bagged an injury-time second to claim Tottenham's 100th away win in the Premier League.

The win puts Spurs alone in third, two points clear of Newcastle following their draw at Old Trafford. The two Manchester clubs are the only two sides above them in the table, and also the only two to beat Spurs in the league this season.

West Brom more than played their part in an enthralling, end-to-end encounter, but ultimately their reward is a third defeat in four games that sees them slip further down towards the bottom of the table.

Sandro came into the Tottenham midfield in place of the unwell Luka Modric, and the Brazilian had a sixth-minute shot from range spilled by goalkeeper Ben Foster, who was fortunate to see the ball trickle wide for a corner rather than into his own net.

After that early scare, West Brom took the lead. Zoltan Gera's industry saw him win the ball near the corner flag and hook it back to Steven Reid. The Baggies right-back whipped in an inviting cross which Mulumbu glanced past Brad Friedel for his first goal of the season.

That was to be Gera's last contribution of the match, as soon afterwards the Hungarian twisted awkwardly after being sold a sold a dummy be Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Gera, who had only made his first appearance of the season earlier in November after recovering from injury, eventually got to his feet, but he limped off the field to be replaced by Simon Cox.

Soon enough, Tottenham were level after Aaron Lennon won a soft penalty. Referee Lee Probert judged the England winger to have been caught by Nicky Shorey, and Adebayor placed the ball on the spot.

The Togolese's poor effort from 12 yards was saved by Foster, but Adebayor reacted quickest after his first ever penalty miss in the Premier League to bundle home the rebound.

West Brom were denied a penalty of their own when Jerome Thomas burst into the area and went down under the slightest of contact from Kyle Walker, but the referee waved away the appeals.

The second half saw two teams both full of belief that they could go on and win the game, and as such there were several breathless periods as play went from end to end.

Adebayor stung the palms of Foster, only for Cox to have a header saved by Friedel. Defoe had a shot from a tight angle cleared off the line by Reid, only for Mulumbu to be denied by the backtracking Sandro.

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson brought on Peter Odemwingie, and the substitute almost had an instant impact when he broke into the box but could not get his shot away.

Defoe settled the visitors' nerves on 81 minutes when a neat flick inside from Adebayor sent the England striker bombing through the centre of the pitch. West Brom's defenders backed off him, and he accepted their invitation with a low drive from 18 yards that flew into the top corner.

Spurs had several more chances to increase their lead before finally doing so in stoppage time when Younes Kaboul's long clearance fell to Bale. The Welshman held the ball up for squaring to Adebayor for the simplest of finishes for his seventh goal in 10 games for Tottenham.
